Ivy Bridge, Intel's Latest Chip, Promises Big Improvement

Manufacturers have finally started releasing and shipping systems with the new Ivy Bridge line of processors in them, but is it a big difference between older model processors and Ivy Bridge?

Ivy Bridge improves on a few fronts:

Graphics Power – This is the big one, and the leap is pretty huge. The HD 4000 graphics processor found in the laptop line (and some of the higher end desktop CPUs) graphics and 3d performance is 20 – 50% faster than last generation's Sandy Bridge processors.

Power Usage – The new line of processors is manufactured using a 22nm process, which reduces power consumption and boosts laptop battery life, allowing for more performance without added weight.

Computing Power – Though ivy bridge isn't a giant leap in performance, it does offer 10 – 15% better performance than the previous generation of Core I Processors. That, plus it offers a few advanced features, like native PCI Express 3.0 support and quad channel memory.

What does this mean for someone looking to buy a laptop or desktop in the near future?

Two great things:

1.) Getting a Sandy Bridge line desktop or laptop at a discount. You can tell these by the processor name (an easy way is to Google the processor model and you can easily find out if it's a Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge CPU. Ex: Google i5-2430m, then google i5-3360M. The generation will either be listed under micro-architecture or codename.

2.) You can get a new ivy bridge processor and get a performance boost all the way around without sacrificing on battery life, graphics performance or size. Ivy bridge is expected to generate a lot more interest in ultrabooks (which are very thin and light model laptops), as the cpu will permit desktop level performance in these very small packages. Those looking to do light gaming can finally use the integrated HD 4000 at acceptable frame rates at low to medium quality settings.

For more information on just how good the ivy bridge processors are we recommend reading the detailed performance benchmarks over at Tom's Hardware.

Are Those Binoculars or is That a Digital Camera?

IT'S BOTH - COMBINED INTO ONE SERIOUS PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY!

5X Magnification - 640X480 Resolution - Center Wheel Focus!

BRILLIANT DIGICAM BINOCULARS STORE 160 IMAGES!

These Get You 5X Closer And Allow You To Snap High-Res Images!

Perfect for Sporting Events - Bird Watching - Nature Hikes - Everything!

Brought to you By Vivitar - A High-Quality Brand You Can Trust!

Imagine This...

You're at a football game. You don't have the best seats. What do you do?  You pull out a pair of binoculars!  Wow - that's a nice change, isn't it.

Too bad you can't snap any photos with the action appearing that close, huh?  From where you're sitting, those giant linemen would look like ants!

If you had THESE Digicam Binoculars, you'd be able to snap those pictures USING the binoculars - think about that!  We've got 'em - check this out!

Get Five Times Closer to the Action - And Take High-Res Photos!

Amazing! Whether you're at a sporting event, a nature hike, out bird watching - whatever - these get you a full five times closer with unbelievably clear focusing...

And they allow you to take HIGH QUALITY 640X480 pictures at the 5X magnification - it's like being there up close and personal!

These work just like a regular set of binoculars but have the added feature of a high-quality built-in digital camera! So you can "See" a scene just like you normally would with a pair of binoculars and snap the perfect photos!

Holds 160 Images - No Memory Card Needed - That's a TON of Photos!

Mind-Blowing Clarity - Outstanding Resolution!

These give you a STUNNING 640X480 resolution - so you know you're getting complete clarity with ZERO bluriness!  Here's an example - our tech guy went out and took some shots of what we like to call "Old Glory" from about 150 feet or so away - and as you can see it's a perfect image!

To make it even more impressive, it was a windy day and that flag was blowing like crazy.  Bet you can't tell from the photo!  This makes taking those "stop action" shots easy!  That means that at sporting events, or out bird watching, you're going to get excellent photos regardless of how fast the action is moving!

60 FT. Linear View From 1000 FT Away - That's HUGE Power!

Here's a little perspective. Lets say you're looking at a building that's 1000 feet away from you.  Then you look through your 5X binocular camera and snap a picture.  This camera would fill that view with a FULL 60 feet of the building's width - and that's how your picture would turn out!  Observe:

So as you can see, this thing gives you massive power while at the same time giving you crystal clear images.  If you're at all interested in photography - in ANY situation - this is the perfect piece of technology for you!

Cutting Edge Technology at an OUTSTANDING Price!

You'd think these things would cost a small fortune.  And you'd be right, if you were looking at them anywhere but here at Worldstart.  Today and today only, get your Vivitar Digicam Binoculars for just $26.97 with FREE US SHIPPING INCLUDED!

Computers 101

Bob from Pennsylvania writes:

Every time I open a new window, it opens small rather than full screen. I have searched the Control Panel, but have not found how to change it. Is there anything I can do?

Normally, any program you use on your computer should always open in "maximized" mode, so the window is fully visible across the screen. However, some programs remember your window settings and may open fully minimized or only half open in "restored" mode. Taking care of this problem is a quick fix that only requires changing a simple setting in the program's "Properties" window.

Before changing the setting controlling how the program is opened, be sure to open and then fully maximize the window. Click the "Maximize" icon, which is marked by a small square, in the row of three buttons at the top-right corner of the window.

On The Move

Changing Your Android Wallpaper

It's amazing how far technology has come in such a short time. It seems every few years some shiny new invention changes the way we see the world. Smartphones are the latest of these game changing technological wonders.  Sleek, stylish, powerful, and almost completely customizable.  The layout of the homepage on your android phone says a lot about you, in fact the only thing that says more is the picture behind it.

Here are a couple ways to change the wallpaper on smartphones using the Android operating system.

On a blank area of the home screen, lay your finger down gently across the screen for 3-5 seconds. A menu will pop up. From this menu select wallpapers.

From The Archives

Carolyn asks:

Can you write something on how to save files to a CD in Windows 7?

Thanks for the question, Carolyn. While we've covered this topic on several occasions, I found no fully illustrated step-by-step directions in our archives, and no instructions at all specifically for Windows 7. However, while the look may be slightly different, these directions will also apply, for the most part, to Vista and XP.

It's a hit! Check it out here!

Today's Feature

I've Always Wanted To Know:
Is 1 Ghz in a phone the same as 1 Ghz in a computer?

Answer:

All Ghz (Gigahertz), a number commonly referred to as the "Speed" of the processor, are not created equal. Megahertz (Mhz) and now Gigahertz (Ghz) are a measure of the frequency of the processor clock. The faster the clock the more information can be processed in a given time. The problem is that all processors do not process information in the same way, and the kind of information that needs to be processed is different between a computer and a phone.

Amanda's Coolsite

Kickstarter

When Amanda Palmer made the news for funding her latest album via Kickstarter, I knew the site had finally grown large enough that it was time to share it with all of you.  I've been following several Kickstarter projects through communities I already support, and I was waiting to see if the site was going to be a flash in pan or have real staying power. I believe it is here to stay.

I found out about Kickstarter because I am really into steampunk, and one of the purveyors of steampunk goods that I follow on Facebook ran a Kickstarter to help fund a community art project. They're moving their store into a larger space and wanted to create a zeppelin, kraken, and tardis at the new location, as well as create an area where their local pet rescue organization could run adoption events.

Kickstarter is a site that works as a platform for funding creative projects. You can register for an account and donate money to projects that you want to see get off the ground, much like the telethons for your local public broadcasting channel. You chose what merits your dollar. It gives you the fan, the ability to decide what your money is used for, by deciding what, if anything, you support.

Or flip it around and you're a creative person, ready to get your product (book, music, art, video game, board game, etc) off the ground but aren't finding the funding you need through traditional options. You can instead create a kickstarter project of your own. Then you'll set the goal and date for when you should have raised the money by and let the consumers decide if they want to fund your project.

To register to use the site, just click the Sign Up link at the top of the page, and then either fill out the registration form (name, e-mail, create a password) or click the F-connect button to sign in with your Facebook account info. I bet you know which option I picked!

You can also click Discover Great Projects at the top of the page to check out some of the Kickstarters that are going on now.  On that page, you can navigate to more projects by using the links on the right side of the page for Categories, Featured, and Cities.

Alright, what are you waiting for?  Go check it out today!

Plug it into the cigarette lighter in your car, turn it on, and set your destination!  You'll get voice commands for every singe turn!  Seriously, if you have this GPS, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get lost!

Setting it up takes mere minutes. There are six basic entries on the main menu: Destination, History, Nearest Points of Interest, Set as Home, Save to Favorite, and Settings.  It's straight forward and TOTALLY user friendly.

So let's say you're driving out of state.  Push the Destination button, put in the state and address (or just the address if it's local), and hit "Go."  That's it!  You're now going to get turn by turn instructions spoken to you!

So now that that's outta the way, let's talk details.  Awesome, cutting edge details!

Crystal Clear 4.3'' Touch Screen

It's a thing of beauty, really.  Once you have your unit mounted, you'll have absolutely no problems navigating the screen.  It's a touch screen, so you control everything with your fingertips.

Look down at your screen, and you'll see the road you're on, the direction you're going, even the distance you've travelled and how much further you have to go.  It even has a built-in speed alert! And since it's a back-lit screen, it's clear as day...even in the dark!

It's the safe, effective, fool-proof way to travel, and that's just the beginning!  Would you believe me if I told you it talked?

It Talks. You Listen. Keep Your Eyes on the Road!

You know, it'd be one thing if you constantly had to keep looking at it to know where to turn next.  That might be a little bit dangerous.  But this thing talks!

Every turn, every merge - it's spoken to you through crystal clear voice prompts! So don't worry about constantly looking at your unit for direction.  This thing is like having the best passenger in the world: one that tells you the EXACT directions, no matter where you're going, and never argues.

Comes With a Preloaded Digital Map of America!

That's right - this package comes with an SD card that's been preloaded with a map of the ENTIRE USA and Puerto Rico!

Travel ANYWHERE and never worry about getting lost again!

Amazing GPS Unit Even Plays MP3's and Displays JPEG Images!

Sweet! You can listen to your tunes on the go - just pop in an SD card that has your favorite music on it, kick back and rock out!

The photo viewer is perfect for viewing your vacation pics too! Just pop your SD card outta your digital camera and into the GPS to get a slideshow of your pics on the MASSIVE 4.3'' touch screen - crystal clear quality!

Lower Falls Morning Light

So, I'm at the base of Lower Falls in Hocking Hills State Park and I'm running out of time. In fact, I shouldn't even be here – the plan was to break camp and head home that morning – no photos.

However, it had rained the day before and many of the falls – including this one – actually had too much water going over them. I also knew from experience that (more)

Fawn Peeking Through The Brush

OK, so we're in Custer State Park in SD in search of some cool critters when we spot this pair of fawns. One had lost her spots, but this little gal still had a few left. The brush was thick and the light was fading so it wouldn't be long before we were forced to (more)

Spring Time Iris

So, I see this little Iris off in the distance and I knew despite the danger it could make for a sweet photo. I gather my gear and with my heart pounding in my chest I begin the relentless 10 foot hike over to its location. It was a tough trek (more)
