Your Weekly Update In The World Of Technology

How Much Is Windows 8? Cheaper Than You Think…

Windows announced this past Monday that the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will cost only $40. This applies to any Windows user running XP or newer. This is a significant announcement since past upgrades have cost much more than $40. Upgrading to Windows 7 from an older version cost $120, while upgrading from one version of 7 to the other cost $65.

The $40 upgrade fee is a promotion and will only last until the end of January 2013 once Windows 8 is released, which will be this fall. The upgrade also requires that users download the Windows 8. Not wanting to wait around or have a slow connection? An upgrade version on DVD will be available for $70 during the promotion. Each option is making it more affordable than past upgrades.

Windows made no mention about the general, non-promotional pricing for Windows 8.

Smaller iPad

Small Enough For Ya?

Rumors are flying around that Apple is about to do something big — and by big I mean something small. New rumors and leaks suggest that Apple is looking to develop and create a smaller and less expensive iPad. The current model has a near 10-inch screen, while the smaller model is said to be 7 or 8 inches. This move will put it into even more direct competition with Amazon's Kindle Fire and the recently announced Google Nexus 7. Both existing 7-inch tablets sell for $199.

Just like with all Apple rumors, it's hard to say if we will ever see a smaller iPad. In fact, the very idea goes against the vision laid out by co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs, who died last October. According to Jobs, a smaller iPad would not be sufficient to deliver a full tablet experience. So now we sit and wait, ready to see if a smaller iPad does in fact become a reality.

PERFECT DESIGN - SITS IN YOUR CUP HOLDER!

Charge up to 3 Devices At Once!

2 AC Plugs AND a USB Port...

THERE'S NOTHING THIS CAN'T CHARGE!

What Can it Charge?

YOU MEAN 'WHAT CAN'T IT CHARGE?!'

Road Rage...

It's happened to all of us - you're not alone! And no, I'm not talking about screaming at the guy who just cut you off, complete with a long honk of the horn and a few choice hand gestures...I'm talking about driving with dead devices!

One minute you're jamming out with your iPod or MP3 Player, the next - you're driving in dead silence. So to pass the time, you decide to call an old friend, only to discover that you're phone battery is about dead...and the laptop you're traveling with sure could use a charge, too.

STOP GETTING ANGRY - WE'VE GOT WHAT YOU NEED!

It's a BRILLIANT, PORTABLE CHARGER that fits in your cup-holder! Well get to the revolutionary design shortly though...for now, you've gotta see how this thing works! And don't worry - it's EASY!

2 AC Outlets AND a USB Port! CHARGE 3 DEVICES AT ONCE!

Just stick the plug into your car's cigarette lighter and you're ready to start charging! As you can see, there are 2 AC outlets AND a USB Port that'll charge ANY home device you can think of: laptop, portable TV's, DVD players, portable gaming devices...WHATEVER!

Have a look at the top: see that? There's two AC plugs, a USB port AND an indicator light!

The AC chargers are PERFECT when traveling with a group of people. Taking a family trip? I bet your kids have portable gaming devices or DVD players...and I bet when they run outta power the bickering starts! Not anymore! Plus it's POWERFUL: it provides a whoppin' 120V of pure charging power!

The USB Port charges EVERYTHING! Seriously - any USB device you can think of, this beast will charge! Whether it's an iPhone, Cell Phone, iPod, MP3 Player, digital camera...if it charges via USB, this will charge it up in NO TIME!

A Design that "Fits!"

We all know how bulky these chargers can be. After all, when they're designed to provide you with 120V of charging power, they're often times an unfortunate shape and size. But not this one! Someone made the most PRACTICAL design ever! Check it out!

FITS PERFECTLY IN YOUR CUP HOLDER!

How PERFECT is that? As you can see - this thing is in a convenient spot while NEVER GETTING IN YOUR WAY! Talk about a REVOLUTIONARY design! The cords that you stick into this charger won't ever get in your way, either.

Having the charger sit in the middle of your car allows you to keep the cords in the middle too - so it's SAFE too! OH - And that Power Cord? It's a WHOPPIN' 18'' long!

All of your devices can now be charged right at your fingertips! The worst part about those other chargers is when they take up a seat, or someone has to hold onto it so it doesn't fall and take your devices with it. That's why the design of this thing is AMAZING!

As you can see, not only is this baby capable of charging all of your devices from the road - it does it in style! It won't take up valuable real estate inside of your car!

Safety First: Overload Protection AND Low Battery Shut-Off!

Safety is ALWAYS a concern, and that certainly wasn't an oversight on this charger! The overload protection ensures that a.) you aren't undercharging your devices and B.) you aren't giving the charger more than it can handle (which is REALLY hard to do!). If either of these things should start to happen, it'll AUTOMATICALLY shut itself off!

And it WON'T drain your car battery!
There's a sensor inside this brilliant charger that monitors your cars battery - and if it's using too much, once again, it'll AUTOMATICALLY shut itself off!

IT'S 100% WORRY FREE CHARGING POWER...

AT A PRICE YOU WON'T BELIEVE!

We were able to get these at an AMAZING price - but the deal won't last! Not only is there a limited supply of these awesome chargers - our vendor is threatening to raise the price at any time! Hurry and get yours at this SPECIAL introductory price of just

Computers 101

Adam, from FL asks:

I have a question regarding Windows Media Player. My media player keeps updating my music files with files I don't need. And whenever they pop up, I delete them. For example, music files that have to do with system sounds and other ridiculous music files. How can I turn this off? Thanks for your help! I run Windows 7.

Adam, in online discussions I found Windows Media Player described alternately as a wonderful and fully functional media player, to a parasite that constantly scans for, and engorges itself on media files. However, you can control the Windows Media Player appetite, by adding or removing folders from the libraries which it uses to update files.

To do this, start by typing Windows Media Player in the Start search and click on the Windows Media Player link.

Changes need to be made in the Library view, so if your player is in the Now Playing mode, you can switch to the Library by clicking the Switch to Library button in the upper right corner of the player window.

You can also access the Library by first hitting the Alt key. This will bring up a menu, from which you wll want to chooseView>Library.

In the Library window, click the Organize button and select Manage libraries>Music.

When you see the folder list, click on any folder you want to remove. Click the Remove button and then click OK.

You can also create a folder, and have the media player update only from the folder you've created.

Another way to prevent unwanted additions to your Player, is to choose which media files are automatically included in the Library. This is done by turning off features in the Options dialog box.

Again, click on the Organize button. This time, select Options. This will bring up the Options dialog box.

If you want to prevent media files from being automatically added when they're played, under the Player tab, uncheck the box beside Add local media files to library when played.

If you want to prevent remote media files from being automatically added, uncheck the box beside Add remote media files to library when played.

Thanks for the question, Adam.

Share A Story

The human capacity for storytelling is a form of communication that has existed possibly as long as the human species. Before written history, humans remembered their history or taught their people through story telling, so it's no wonder to me that people would create a platform on the internet for story sharing that can evoke positive change. So, for Share a Story, I'm starting your visit on the About page because I believe they've written their mission statement far more eloquently than I could paraphrase it.

Navigation is simple – just use the tabs at the top of the page. They are Home, Stories, Contribute, and About. On the Home page you'll find the currently featured story. When I was there it was Flirting with the Devil (Part 2), with a handy link back to Part 1.

To find other contributions you'll need to head over to the Stories tab where you will find several ways to navigate them. On the Stories page there are a selection of Top Stories being featured, as well as the ability to view stories by region and category.

If you want to share your own story, you'll need to click the Submit a Story button and then read the requirements (1000 to 1400 words) before e-mailing the site your story. The Contribute section allows you to apply for positions that let you volunteer to help on the site either collecting stories or editing them.

Ahh, aren't they cute? We found these two prairie dogs on a hillside in Custer State Park, SD on warm June morning. They were having a great time playing, eating, and in this case, checking each other out.
