Quick Tip

Codec or Codecs Defined

image

Have you ever tried to play a movie or audio file, only to be met with a message saying that you need to download a codec? What IS a codec, anyways?

The word Codec stands for either Coder-Decoder or Compressor-Decompressor, depending on who you ask. There are audio, text, and video codecs. They're used to coordinate the audio track, any text for subtitles, and the video tracks in videoconferencing and streaming media. Some downloaded video clips will require a specific codec before you can play the content.

They're Portable! Rechargeable! HIGH Quality...

They Connect to Your Computer, iPod, MP3 Player...

Literally Anything with a Sound Jack...

They've Got Extra Bass and Brilliant Sound...

WHAT ARE THEY?!

They're the Most VERSATILE Speakers in the World...

AND WE'VE GOT 'EM!

These Things are Literally PACKED With BRILLIANT Features!

Your Current Speakers Are GARBAGE!

Seriously, why do you tolerate bad audio? Let's say you're watching a movie on your computer. Or a YouTube video. Whatever. You've got these speakers hooked up to your PC for better audio, only that isn't the case. At all. The sound that's spewing from those things is TERRIBLE: tinny, choppy, full of static. It actually sounds disgusting.

Same with your iPod or MP3 Player -
you've got a pair of portable speakers for them, and they suck! Sure, portable speakers for your devices or computer are a nice idea...but not when the sound quality sounds terrible! Isn't it embarassing to listen to when other people are around? Aren't you ashamed?

Send That Bad Audio to "Low Fidelity Hell!"

Or wherever terrible sound goes when it's no longer being used! You've gotta see these new rechargeable, extra bass, high-quality speakers from HYPE! They'll change your audio world FOREVER!

What Are They & What do They Do?

The simple answer: They're compact, RECHARGEABLE, portable speakers for your desktop PC, for your Laptop, OR for your iPod or MP3 Player!

As you can see from the pictures, these good lookin' speakers plug into your computer via a USB extension to recharger, and they produce AMAZING sound! They split up and expand to give you that extra bass you're craving, too!

They even have a magnetic base at the bottom - stick them together for MAXIMUM portability!

Wanna use them on your iPod or MP3 Player? Go ahead - just plug the jack into the speakers and you're READY TO ROCK!

What's All the "Hype" About? How About the AMAZING SOUND!

Not that you'd expect anything less, but just to get this out of the way I'll say it now: These speakers sound AMAZING! If you're looking for dynamic, hi-def sound for your computer or portable music players...these are the speakers for you!

These provide UNBELIEVABLY CLEAR, loud, extra bass sound for your computer, iPod, MP3 player and much more! All you've gotta do is hook 'em up and hit play!

Sure, they're perfect for watching a video at your computer. But let's say you're entertaining guests during a party and have them hooked up to your iPod. How do they sound when they need to be LOUD? They still sound brilliantly clear! And again, they even extend for extra bass - talk about a FULL, RICH SOUND!

So what else makes these a best buy?

They're RECHARGEABLE!

These speakers charge via the USB port on your computer. If you're using these solely for your computer for music, movies or anything else, relax! You'll never have to worry about charging them.

But if you're using them for other things, like as speakers for your iPod, all you have to do when the battery gets low is stick them in your computer for a short time and BOOM - they're ready to go again!

They're Dynamic!

As stated above, you can connect these to your computer (laptop, desktop - doesn't matter), and you can also connect them to your iPod, MP3 Player, or whatever other portable music player you'd like. Now you have an AWESOME set of portable speakers that recharge via a USB port from your computer!

Use 'em For Your Computer, iPod, MP3 Player - Anything with a 3.5mm Jack!

WOW - THAT SOUNDS AMAZING!

100% Compact Portability!

As you can observe from the pictures, these speakers are small and totally portable. But don't let that fool you - they're SUPER POWERFUL! That's the direction technology is heading these days - the smallest size crammed with the most possible power. These are EXACTLY what you're looking for!

Easy to carry around, perfect for bringing with you on the go, and rechargeable power! What more could you ask for in a dynamic set of speakers? How about a low price, too?!

That's Right - We're Almost Giving Them Away!

We were able to get an OUTSTANDING deal on these guys, but only for a limited time! If you're looking for RECHARGEABLE SPEAKERS with premium sound for ALL of your devices, you've come to the right place! Today, get your set for just

Computers 101

Tara writes:

I did a search the other day in Windows Explorer in Vista. When the results came up, for some reason I had the preview pane on the right side. I don't want it there and can't find out how to get rid of it. Can you help me?

Tara, there is nothing more irritating than having your computer do something you didn't want it to, and then not being able to fix it. (Well, there are probably things more irritating but we're not talking about them.)

Okay, let me show you how to get rid of the preview pane in Vista's Explorer. It's pretty easy to do.

First, left-click to open any Explorer folder. For this tutorial, I will make a new folder, call it Any Explorer Folder and save it to my desktop.

In the screenshot below, you will notice that the Preview pane is open on the right side. Now go up to the top of the screen. Directly above the white part of the screen is a bar (it's teal in the screenshot).

This bar has three things listed on it: Organize, Views, and Burn. We are only concerned with the Organize option.

See the little white triangle that points down directly to the right of Organize? Left-click on it.

After you left-click on it, a menu will drop down. Look down the menu until you see Layout (it has a little black triangle that points to the right and is a little over half way down the menu). Hover your cursor over it, and another small menu will pop up. It will look like the picture below:

Notice how the Preview Pane and the Navigation Pane have light blue squares around each icon. Whenever the icons are like that, they are enabled. In this menu, only my Details Pane is not enabled.

Here we want to disable the Preview Pane, so we left-click on it. It will no longer be surrounded with a blue square. And my Preview Pane is gone, and now (if you have stuck with me through this tutorial), yours is, too.

After you left-click on Preview Pane to disable it, this is what it looks like:

And that's it! Now you know how to get rid of it.

Thanks for writing, Tara!

On The Move

What You Should Look For in a Blu-ray Player

Whether you're looking to upgrade your current Blu-ray player or purchase your very first one, there are several features you should consider when determining which model to buy. With technology growing by leaps and bounds, the features that can be found on Blu-ray players today are much more advanced than even a few years ago. While price is a major factor in any purchase, you should focus more on the features of each player so you won't have to upgrade too soon.

Blu-ray discs provide high-definition content that is best viewed on a high-definition television that offers a resolution of 1080p. You can connect a Blu-ray player to any television that has a composite video or HDMI input, but if it is not a 1080p HD TV, you won't be taking advantage of the Blu-ray's high-definition content. Before making your purchase, consider these Blu-ray player features. You may find some that you don't absolutely need, while others may turn out to be a must for you.

From The Archives

Susanne from Sydney Australia writes:

I would like to turn my control panel to classic view in windows 7 64 bit. How do I do this?

It's not uncommon for someone to miss the classic view of the control panel… the new look has everything sorted into a few categories so that what you're after may take a couple of layers to find.

For example, let's assume that I'm looking for the power settings on my laptop. When I open the Control Panel I initially see this:

Today's Feature

Richard asks:

I have a folder which I tried to secure by adding password protection. In the Folder Properties, under the General tab, I saw and checked the Hidden box and successfully hid the folder. Now I can't seem to find the newly hidden folder. How do I get access back to the folder? Also, how can I password protect it? I'm using Vista.

Richard, you can access your hidden folder by going to where it was stored (it's still there) and clicking the Alt key. This will bring up a familiar looking menu at the top of the screen. By the way, you can also follow these steps in Windows 7.

Feel secure here!

Find a Doctor

Finding a doctor is hard. Unlike a lot of services today, you can't just hop on the internet and do a search for a doctor near you and get reviews like you might for a restaurant. Finding a good doctor is still very much a word of mouth endeavor. Your friends recommmend so and so, or your mother recommmends someone else. How do you sort it all out? Well, there are places on the internet that are trying to change that. One of them is Everyday Health.

Everyday Health brings you the ability to find doctors, dentists, specialists, hospitals, healthcare providers, mental health professionals by state, city. They've built a search engine that lets you search for doctors close to where you live in a variety of fields (general practitioner, specialist, dentist, etc.).

Did I mention it is easy to use? Just type in your zip code or city and state, then set the range of miles that you want them to be within and the type of physician you are looking for from the drop down boxes and click the green Show Results button. Have a pre-existing condition or need a certain type of specialist? Well you can search by condition instead! However, you chose to search a list of physicians will be presented and you can click on their name to learn about their practice, what specialties they are certified for, what hospitals they are affiliated with, and see other patient's reviews of their practice.

Do you have a great physician? Well then, why don't you spread the word by writing them a review? When you use the search engine you can fill it out with the all the information plus your physician's name and when you find them on list click the Review This Health Professional link to write a review of your experience with them.

I think that over time this is a trend that will really take off, because people are more likely to trust services that have been reviewed by their peers.

Prairie Dog Smooch

Ahh, aren't they cute? We found these two prairie dogs on a hillside in Custer State Park, SD on warm June morning. They were having a great time playing, eating, and in this case, checking each other out.
I knew when I went on this trip that I wanted to get some kind of shot like this. I had actually been trying for... (more)

Coyote Gaze

We spotted this cool coyote one evening in Yellowstone, and since coyotes just happen to be about my favorite animal of all time, well, I had to grab the camera and see about getting a photo.

Now, the tricky part here was the light – we were running out of it – and FAST! I quickly set up the camera and put glass on this guy – but he was blocked by all kinds of brush – arrgh! However, I knew that if I... (more)

Corkscrew Falls

OK, first off, no clue if that's what the actual name of this falls is. In fact, I think it's an unnamed falls, so we're going with Corkscrew. Sound good?
