Quick Tip

Custom Folder Picture

This tip is for our fans of folder customization. Take a look at one of the folder icons on your desktop and you'll notice that there's a picture sticking out of it. Like this:

image

It would appear that this is just a random picture, chosen by Windows, but we all know better – we know that there's gotta be a way to change it.

And there is!

Just Right-Click the folder and choose Properties. From here, make sure the Customize tab is selected and under Folder Pictures, choose Choose File… (Might be "Choose Picture" under Windows XP)

image

Now simply browse to a location on your hard drive that's got a picture you want to use, select it and choose Open. Click OK.

Now your folder has its own custom picture!

Great!

Getting Lost is SO Last Decade...

I mean, there's just no excuse for it these days. No matter where you need to go in the world, if you have an address, you shouldn't have ANY problem getting there. This is the digital age, and relics like road maps are obsolete.

Oh, and stopping to get directions from some toothless man at a secluded gas station? Forget about it!

It's Time: You need a QUALITY GPS Unit, and we've got it!

If you've been putting off getting yourself a GPS unit, now's the time to get one! We've got an outstanding deal on a top-of-the-line unit brought to you by Nextar - a trusted brand! Check it out!

First Thing's First: It's SIMPLE to Use!

Plug it into the cigarette lighter in your car, turn it on, and set your destination! You'll get voice commands for every singe turn! Seriously, if you have this GPS, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get lost!

Setting it up takes mere minutes. There are six basic entries on the main menu: Destination, History, Nearest Points of Interest, Set as Home, Save to Favorite, and Settings. It's straight forward and TOTALLY user friendly.

So let's say you're driving out of state. Push the Destination button, put in the state and address (or just the address if it's local), and hit "Go." That's it! You're now going to get turn by turn instructions spoken to you!

So now that that's outta the way, let's talk details. Awesome, cutting edge details!

Crystal Clear 4.3'' Touch Screen

It's a thing of beauty, really. Once you have your unit mounted, you'll have absolutely no problems navigating the screen. It's a touch screen, so you control everything with your fingertips.

Look down at your screen, and you'll see the road you're on, the direction you're going, even the distance you've travelled and how much further you have to go. It even has a built-in speed alert! And since it's a back-lit screen, it's clear as day...even in the dark!

It's the safe, effective, fool-proof way to travel, and that's just the beginning! Would you believe me if I told you it talked?

It Talks. You Listen. Keep Your Eyes on the Road!

You know, it'd be one thing if you constantly had to keep looking at it to know where to turn next. That might be a little bit dangerous. But this thing talks!

Every turn, every merge - it's spoken to you through crystal clear voice prompts! So don't worry about constantly looking at your unit for direction. This thing is like having the best passenger in the world: one that tells you the EXACT directions, no matter where you're going, and never argues.

Comes With a Preloaded Digital Map of America!

That's right - this package comes with an SD card that's been preloaded with a map of the ENTIRE USA and Puerto Rico!

Travel ANYWHERE and never worry about getting lost again!

Amazing GPS Unit Even Plays MP3's and Displays JPEG Images!

Sweet! You can listen to your tunes on the go - just pop in an SD card that has your favorite music on it, kick back and rock out!

The photo viewer is perfect for viewing your vacation pics too! Just pop your SD card outta your digital camera and into the GPS to get a slideshow of your pics on the MASSIVE 4.3'' touch screen - crystal clear quality!

Your GPS May have Been Expensive - But it's a Life-Saver!

You'd Feel Lost Without it...

So Why Would You EVER Mount it on the Dashboard?

YOU'VE GOTTA PROTECT THAT THING!

Dashboard Mounts are an Advertisement for Thieves & Sunlight Exposure!

YOU NEED THIS BRILLIANT GPS CUP HOLDER!

Safely & Securely Mounts to a Cup -

Out of Sunlight Exposure - Out of Plain View - Totally Secure!

http://imgsrv.worldstart.com/ct-images/keep-your-gps-safe.jpg

Attach it to the Cup, Put it in the Cup Holder...
AND IT'S PROTECTED FROM THIEVES AND SUNLIGHT EXPOSURE!

SO Much Can go Wrong...

Your GPS just went FLYING off the mount! You made one turn, and that was all it took. Now it's resting beneath your feet in a sticky mess from that spilled drink. RUINED!

Newsflash: Electronics DO NOT like the sun! Direct sunlight can melt your device, and the rays slowly destroy it!

Dashboard Mounts Are an Advertisement for Thieves! All they've gotta do is see the mount, and they know it's there. NOT worth it!

Your GPS is a Life-Saver! Protect That Thing!

How many tight spots has your GPS pulled you out of? From getting lost in a bad part of town to finding your vacation destination, your trusty GPS is ALWAYS there when you need it! Protect that thing!

A REVOLUTIONARY Solution is Here!

Mount That Bad Boy to the Cup - Stick it in the Cup Holder!

Talk about ultimate safety AND security! This is a brilliant idea, and frankly one we're stunned wasn't though of sooner. Just like it sounds, this is a mount in the shape of a cup that safely sits right next to you in your cup holder!

Eliminate The GPS Destroying Threats!

We're going to break it down for you nice and clear here. This is a simple idea that yields amazing results that save you money, grief, and from getting lost!

See the image above? It's simple to see without altering your windshield like the others!

So How's it Work? EASY!

Safe and Secure. Simply mount it to the secure cup, and stick it in your cupholder. That's it!

All too often we're putting our safety and that of others at risk while we frantically try scooping it off the dirty floor of the car. The impact alone is enough to make you cringe...but what about the sticky floor? Yuck!

You Think the Sun Won't Destroy Your Unit? Think Again!

Out of the Sun - Out of Harms Way! It's no surprise that the sun will destroy electronics if left in direct exposure for long enough! Your GPS is made of a hard plastic resin - yes, it's tough, but not tough enough not to melt or get internal damage from the sun!

Thieves Can't Steal What They Can't See!

Out of Plain Sight - Thieves Cannot See it! This is the best part! Most of us have had our vehicle broken into at one time or another. The expense of that happening is WAY more than just replacing what's stolen - popped locks and busted windows cost a FORTUNE to repair!

Here's something you may not know: The FIRST thing a thief looks for when deciding which car to bust into is the suction mark on the windshield. If that's there, they know what's inside!

Guess what doesn't leave ANY suction marks anywhere? THIS THING!

The Perfect Device at the Perfect Price!

We got a great deal on these, and we're passing the savings directly on to you! For today only, this GPS Cup Holder can be yours for just $12.97with FREE US SHIPPING included!

Computers 101

Gloria from CA writes:

I have a web site that I use daily and have to type the www address every time. Is there a way to give it an icon and pin it to the toolbar? Thanks!

You can do this by creating a new shortcut on your desktop to the website address, then pin it to the task bar. It's really easy!

Step 1) Right click on an empty area of your desktop and go down to New then left click create Shortcut.

newshortcut

Step 2) Type into the "Type the location of the item:" box the full website address begining with http://www. For example if you want to go to worldstart.com type in: http://www.worldstart.com and press Next

createshortcut2

Step 3) Type in a name for the shortcut describing what it is in the "Type a name for this shortcut:" box and press Finish.

Step 4) The next step is to pin your web browser to your task bar if it's not already there. Click Start > Programs > then go to your internet web browser icon, right click it and select Pin to Taskbar. (If you already have an internet browser icon always on your task bar (even when you close your web browser), you can skip this step.

shortcut5

Step 5) Click and hold the mouse button on the shortcut you made to the website and drag it over to your internet browser icon on your task bar. Once it is over it, let go of the mouse button.

shortcut6

Step 6) Now when you right click on internet explorer you should see your link at the top of the menu! You can add other pinned items to this the same way.

You can delete the shortcut from your desktop once you've dragged/dropped it. Internet explorer will remember it.

shortcut7

The same instructions work with Firefox. You can also drag the shortcut on to your start menu to put it there or just leave it on your desktop and click the desktop icon to go right to the website.

Clear Android Applications Cache to Improve Performance
Has your Android phone visibly slowed down? Is there a lag? If yes, free up some phone memory and you'll notice a drastic improvement in speed and performance. In this tip, I'll show you how to improve the performance of an Android phone by clearing the cache memory. I've used the most commonly found version of Android, 2.2, to illustrate the steps.

Step 1: Access Settings.

There are two ways of accessing Settings. The simplest is to press the menu key on the phone. Typically, it is the left corner key on Android phones. After you press this key, some options appear. Tap Settings.

Access the Settings menu.

From The Archives

Pamela from Illinois asks:

My Dell computer, running Windows XP, cannot read CDs. When I put one in, I get the hourglass and nothing else. What could be wrong?

The first question; was it a commercial CD or a copied disc? Sometimes copies of CDs are not finalized correctly, and they won't play in anything other than the machine in which they were burned.

The second question; is it a CD or an unmarked DVD? Not all computers have the capability to play DVDs. Most of the newer models can play almost any type of disc, but older Dells aren't able to play certain discs. Make sure it's a CD you are putting in the computer.

If you put in the CD and the hourglass shows up, try clicking on the hourglass symbol. This will often cause an error message to pop up and let you know what is going on. Sometimes the message will tell you to insert a disc. This message usually appears when a blank disc is inserted in a computer that isn't equipped with a disc burner. While most computers can play CDs, not all are able to burn them. Due to this lack of disc-burning capability, these computers will not acknowledge a blank disc.

However, if you know for sure that your computer is able to play CDs, the cause may be your media player settings. Try the following steps:

Step 1 – Click on the Start button at the bottom left of your screen

Today's Feature

Joe from DE writes:

Other than for security purposes, does shredding files gain back hard drive space? How does it work, exactly?

Hi, Joe. Thanks for the great question.

Whether you delete a file from your recycle bin or shred it, the space is made available for your computer to use. Although in either case it is still technically taking up the same amount of space on your hard drive, your computer can still overwrite the information. The big difference is that when you simply delete a file from your recycle bin, the file is still there and can be recovered using specialized forensic software.

Zip Decode

This Web site is a really fun application! What you see is a map of the U.S.A. and what you're going to do is put in zip codes. Let's check it out!

For example, type in my zip code: 43610

It will show you exactly where my zip code is on the map. Then if you click the Z key or click on the word Zoom, it will zoom in on that location. In the zoomed in mode, the other dots represent the zip codes near by.

If you hold down the Shift key and type in more numbers, it will change the location. So, let's try 44052. That's the zip code I grew up in.

The image of the map itself is all the dots of the zip codes. Isn't it interesting that it still keeps the shape of the country?!

I like to put in random numbers and see where I end up. I found out where 72560, 81501 and 12345 were!

Check this Web site out and remember to have fun with it!

Are you sick of stumbling around in your pantry, tool shed or garage, falling over various objects while trying to find just ONE thing?

You'd LOVE to do something about it, but there's a problem: there's no wiring running through these areas, therefore NOWHERE to install a bulb or lamp! You're not alone...and we've got the PERFECT SOLUTION!

And it's unbelievably easy to use, too. There's no assembly required, no electricity, either. This runs on batteries that last FOREVER (due to the efficiency of LED bulbs). In fact, you don't even have to use tools to hang it. Check this thing out!

Swiveling LED Bulbs - Motion Sensored Tap Technology!

Remember - this is 5 Swiveling LED bulbs we're talking about! It's bright and efficient sure, but did you catch that? The lights on this thing actually swivel - meaning you can angle and adjust the light to your liking, or shine light in a particular spot or area! Talk about convenience!

If there's ANY room in your home that doesn't have wiring and you need BRIGHT light, this is EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED!

Works perfectly in your car, too! That's right, it's self adhesive, so you can stick it on the inside roof of your car for a FAR better light than that weak yellow overhead bulb. We spend a lot of time in the car, and this awesome feature shouldn't be overlooked!
