One Cable. ENDLESS Possibilities. Your TOTAL Solution:

Transfer HUGE Amounts of Data with LIGHTNING Speed!

Cure a Virus Ridden Computer!

Quick & Simple Backups!

THIS DOES ALL OF THAT AND MORE - IT'S A MIRACLE CABLE!

Pays for Itself in One Use - You've Gotta See The Video Below!

Now THAT'S Brilliant! When I first discovered this amazing cable, all I could think was, "WOW! Talk about a cable EVERY computer user needs!"

What the heck is it? What's it do? And why do I want one?

Glad you asked! - Basically, this ingenious device allows you use an internal hard drive as an external hard drive!

First - HOW it works:

You take an internal hard drive - IDE or SATA (that's pretty much everything from the last 10+ years) and plug it into this device. Then plug the USB cable into your computer - that's it! The hard drive you hooked up will show up as a removable drive under My Computer! No pesky driver install required! How cool is that?

Why would you want to do that? Here's just a FEW of the ways I use mine:

This is the biggie! Let's say you have an old computer laying around and you REALLY want to get the info off the old hard drive and onto your new computer. With this, just pop out the old hard drive, hook it to this little gadget, and plug the USB cable into your new computer.

You just got your data back!

Also, if you have an old hard drive lying around, hook it up to this and have instant USB access to your files! Now THAT'S smart!

My favorite use for this? Using it as a cheap backup device!

OK, think about this - how much does an external hard drive cost? They're freakin' expensive! In a LOT of cases they can easily run over $100 - even $200 isn't unusual! Know why you're paying so much? That pretty case!

PLUS - Once you get the data off your old hard drive, you can turn THOSE into your backup drives! Now that's my kind of recycling!

Grab that old hard drive sitting in your drawer and use this handy cable put them on there! After all, this cable is basically turning your old hard drive into a giant flash drive, right? Why not use it like one?

Once your data has been copied, just grab the drive and cable and transfer to the computer that needs the info - problem solved!

OK, this may not be for everyone, but I've done this several times with these cables and it works GREAT!

Every time you boot Windows, the virus turns on as well. Smarter viruses then disable all the software tools you install to get rid of them!

So, instead of taking hours to try and manually remove a bad virus, I just pop out the hard drive and - using this cable - hook it to my personal computer. Now I have access to the everything but since windows didn't boot on the infected drive, the virus STAYS DORMANT - and is helpless to stop me from killing it! A quick scan and removal with from my AV software and the problem is fixed!

All thanks to this handy little cable!

And those are just a FEW of the uses for this remarkable cable!

Your cost? 'Till tomorrow it's just $22.97 and FREE SHIPPING! It's an incredible deal - especially when you figure in all the money it's going to save you on those fancy external drives! Pays for itself almost instantly! Check it out:

PS - Stop getting ripped off for hard drive storage! Grab one of these and use ANY IDE or SATA drive for extra space, backup, and storage before this sale ends!

Computers 101

Nishat from India writes:

Can you please give me an idea about LogMein software. What is its function & how does it work?

LogMeIn, and other remote login software, allows you to remotely control and access a computer from a variety of devices. LogMeIn has versions for Windows, Mac, iOS (iPhone, iPad) and Android devices and via the web.

So, why would you want to use this kind of software?

Many people have PCs at work which they can not take home or with them when they go on a trip. This software allows you to use another device to control that PC remotely with full access to everything that's on the computer. Let's say you had to take a business trip down to a supplier to oversee a project, but didn't have the logistics program on your phone (the only device you have with you). Instead of calling the office, having someone else try to log into your computer and navigate software they don't know - with YOUR passwords – you can log in remotely on the phone and have your fully functional desktop computer streamed to your device.

For home users the greatest use is having access to everything on your home computer when you're out and about. Say you're in the office and want to look up the contact information for your daughter's girl scout troop leader to let her know that you'll be late dropping her off today. You can log in through the logmein website, open up microsoft word on your desktop then view the document containing all the troop information.

What are some of the downsides/dangers of these type of programs?

1) Some companies do not allow/won't approve if this software is installed. It allows users to remotely log in, after all, so security rules governing who can access information is called into question. Always check your company policy before installing any program like this.

2) Security concerns focus mostly on the strength of your password and security system used by the software. Most remote desktop software's security will make all communication encrypted and secure, but if your password is "abc123″ it's not as secure as it should be. You may also be viewing this information in a Starbucks in public and may not be the best place to be reviewing confidential your-eyes-only company information.

3) Hacks/cracks/backdoors. With any remote login software there is always a risk that the software can have a bug in it, which once discovered, could let unauthorized users in. This is true for any software run on your computer, but is especially dangerous when the entire purpose of the software is to let people log in remotely.

Is the risk worth the reward? That is a personal and company decision to make, but being able to access a work system on vacation from your phone while waiting in line with your daughter at an amusement park is a lot better then having to come home from a trip early for 10 minutes worth of work.

On The Move

Android Punctuation Made Easy

Ironically, the introduction of software designed to improve writing (spell check, grammar check, etc.) coincided with an increasing lack of interest in the rules of writing. As a result, punctuation, capitalization, and even correct spelling are instruments that are becoming progressively rusty from neglect. With email, people tended to speed through messages, ignoring punctuation and capitalization. And, of course, texting not only introduced an entirely new language, but continued the deterioration of the previously mentioned tools.

However, if you own an Android phone (and if you care), the stock keyboard offers easy access to punctuation. I discovered this by accident, when a finger delayed a little too long on one of the keys, revealing optional characters. I then tested several keys, most of them exposing even more options, and finally–as a last resort—I referred to the Android owner's manual for additional information.

One impractical way to add punctuation (the one I used for several months), is to tap the lower left key, which opens the number and punctuation keyboard.

MS Excel: When You Need a Calculator But Don't Feel Like Writing a Formula

It happens to all of us – we're working on a spread sheet and we find that we need to calculate something but we just want to quickly get the information we need without all the formula writing nonsense.

Often it's at this point that we find ourselves wishing for a plain old calculator.

We all know that there's one built into windows, but accessing it requires you to go through as much hassle at the formula would have caused… or does it?

Today's Feature

I've Always Wanted To Know:
Why do DVD/CD/Bluray Discs spin in your computer/player?

Answer:
Optical Media (DVD/CD/Bluray) store information by burning or pressing very tiny pits on the surface of the disc. Your computer or player then shines a very narrow laser beam up at the disc and reads where a pit exists and where one doesn't and translates that into the 0′s and 1′s (Binary) that a computer or electronic device can understand.

Amanda's Coolsite

At Home in the Heartland Online

Welcome to At Home in the Heartland Online, where you can discover what it was like to live in Illinois from the 1700's to the present day.

When you arrive at the site, I would suggest ignoring the main menu for the moment and checking out the About the Exhibit link. There you will find out exactly what the site is about and what you can expect to learn during your visit.

Then I'd head back to the main page and select the time period that most interests you. Your options are 1700-1800, 1800-1850, 1850-1890, 1890-1920, 1920-1950 and 1950 to the present day. Lots of different time periods to explore!

My favorite part of the exhibits for each time period is the voices. It provides you with a unique perspective which adds layers of complexity to your experience.

Are you ready to start a journey through time and experience Illinois in a way you may never have thought possible? Then head over and check out Home in the Heartland Online today!
