| Facebook Sort Options Facebook is a constantly evolving (or devolving, depending on your outlook), Internet entity ever experimenting with options and features. Problem is that most of the time we never knew something existed until it's old news. Take the Sort option, for example. Up until recently I didn't know you could sort your feed by Top Stories or Most Recent, but as it turns out, you can! Just look for the Sort option (located at the top of your feed), click it, choose your preferred method of sorting, and your feed will adjust accordingly. That was easy! I only hope it doesn't change before people have had a chance to try it out! ~Andrew Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version --- Customize Your Windows 7 Shut Down Button Tell me, how often do you actually "shut down" your computer? More often than not, do you put it to sleep? Lock it? What if someone else consistently uses the computer after you? Wouldn't it be nice to just log off? That's a lot of questions with one relatively easy answer! Just right-click your Start button and select "Properties". Under the Start Menu Tab you'll see a selection that says "Power button action:" and a drop-down box next to it. Simply drop that box down and select the action you most commonly use with your computer and hit OK. Now whenever you click the Start button you'll see the action you chose instead of the usual "Shut Down option!. If you don't like it, just follow the same steps and re-select "Shut Down" Super Easy! ~Andrew Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version

Ron from IL writes: Why not just reinstall from the "D" drive for Vista or Win 7. The "D" drive has a copy of the system as it existed when it came from the factory doesn't it? I did not get any set up disks when I purchased my HP with Win 7 on it a year ago. I was told that the vendors now use the "D" in place of disks. Hi, Ron. I agree why not? It's probably the easiest way to do it, and the vendors who told you that computer manufacturers are now using a partition, called a "restore partition" on your hard drive to restore now rather than optical discs are correct. Probably the most important reason for this (from the manufacturer's point of view) is that it costs less to use a restore partition than it does to manufacture optical discs. The reason that it's good for us as computer users is because we frequently lose our restore discs. I can't speak for anyone else, but the only way that I've really been able to keep track of them is when HP produced a PC that had a storage area for them on the computer case itself. Here's how you restore from a restore partition. Be sure to back your computer up before you do this. Odds are that you'll be able to do what's called a "non-destructive" restore that will allow you to keep all of your files intact, but it's always better to be safe than sorry. You'll want to check and make sure that your computer includes a restore partition. All HPs and Dells manufactured within about the past five years or so include them, as do most other computers these days. You do this by clicking START and then COMPUTER. What you're looking for is labeled "restore" or "recovery". Next, click START and then enter "recovery" into the search box. Click on RECOVERY MANAGER. When you run the recovery manager, you'll see a screen that looks something like the following. This is an HP screen, so if your machine is a different manufacturer, it may look different, but the options should be virtually identical. If one of the original programs that came with your computer has become corrupt, you use SOFTWARE PROGRAM REINSTALLATION. MICROSOFT SYSTEM RESTORE will close the recovery manager and launch Microsoft's system restore program to fix broken Windows. The final option here is REALLY the final option. SYSTEM RECOVERY is for when your system has become hopelessly corrupt and you need to start from scratch. COMPUTER CHECKUP will check your system for errors and problems. If you're not sure what's wrong, this might be a good place to start. RECOVERY MEDIA CREATION is for those who have a hard time leaving the 20th century and are just not comfortable unless they have a disc to lose. All kidding aside, this is a way to create external restore media, which should then be secured somewhere climate and moisture controlled where you won't lose or forget them, just in case something happens to your recovery partition. In other words, total hard drive failure or destruction. RECOVER REPORT is pretty self-explanatory. I'm not entirely sure why the REMOVE RESTORE PARTITION option exists. If you're that hard up for hard drive space, it might be time to invest in a larger hard drive. I hope that this helps! ~Randal Schaffer Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version --- Ron from NC writes: I'm a little confused I bought a new computer last year with Windows 7 already installed. After a couple of rough spots, I've grown to really like it, but now they are coming out with Windows 8! So, if I just want to keep 7 and not mess with 8, is there anything I have to do, or can I just keep on with 7 and not upgrade? and will these upgrades ever stop? Great question! A lot of people are in the same boat and wondering can they keep using Windows 7? Do they need to upgrade to 8? Will they still get software patches and fixes for Windows 7? The good news is that Windows 7 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Microsoft has traditionally offered long support cycles for businesses especially, due to corporate customers needing guaranteed support for 3-5 years at a time. In other words, Windows 7 will continue to be supported by Microsoft with software patches, security updates and software. Additionally, Windows 8 is also built on the same basic code that Windows 7 was built on, thus allowing software developers to easily build programs compatible with both. Since all estimates indicate Windows 8 will be most popular on tablets and notebooks with touch screens (with slower adaption by desktop and laptop users), software companies will have a strong incentive to keep releasing Windows 7 compatible software. Will the cycle ever end? I doubt it. Windows 8 does represent a massive leap forward on ease-of-use for people with touch screen computers, but the good news is computing power may finally be reaching a point where new computers no longer speed up "basic" tasks; just increase the types of amazing things you can do or the speed of more advanced tasks. ~Tim Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a question for us? Should I do the same with a tablet computer? Tablet's are such a new device type that many people have the same question: "What should I do to maintain it?" Well here is a bit of good news: Not a lot. Tablet computers use flash memory and do not require any form of defragmenting. Most tablet operating systems also automatically clear out temporary files stored after a certain limit is reached and intelligently manage the storage space available. Having said that, what kind of maintenance should you perform? Find out here! (Want these tips in their entirety? Sign up for Premium!)

I'm still obsessed with Mars and the Curiosity mission, so when I found another great full color panorama site of the previous mission, Opportunity I wanted to share it with you. Then when I arrived they also had a new full color panorama from Curiosity on Mars! I'll be honest I clicked the link to head over to the new panorama from Curiosity first but no matter which one you start with navigation is the same. Click the full screen button and then use your mouse to change the viewpoint. You can mouse up, down, right, and left, as well as use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out. I also suggest reading about Mars Panorama where you can learn about the missions and why the images are captured in false color.
