More often than not, do you put it to sleep? Lock it? What if someone else consistently uses the computer after you? Wouldn't it be nice to just log off? That's a lot of questions with one relatively easy answer! Just right-click your Start button and select "Properties". Under the Start Menu Tab you'll see a selection that says "Power button action:" and a drop-down box next to it. Sheila from Texas writes: What about all those files with the $$ in front of them? Can I delete ALL of those? Will it help my computer to delete them? Let's start with an explanation those files you've found are Temp (temporary) Files. Often they will have a ".tmp" extension and are located in a Temp folder. Various programs will create them while you're working to hold auto-save files or other data the program may need. When you close the program they should be erased, but as you've found that's not necessarily the case. (Computer crashes, improper shutdowns, general program issues often cause these files to be left behind.) They are safe to delete, but be sure to close all programs before you do it since programs create and use them while you are working, you'll want to be sure that nothing is currently being used. Temp files are using up disk space and could cause your computer to work slower so yes go ahead and delete them! ~ April Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a question for us? Do Not Try This At Home! This site documents what happens when you put different items in the microwave with the intent of melting them down. Set up like a television, on the left side you'll find the warning not to try this at home. Around the top, right side, and some of the bottom of the viewing area you'll find the items that they experimented with. They are: marshmallows, glue, cake, foam, soap, eclair, parfait, eggs, gummy worms, jelly legumes, deodorant, crispy dessert bar, tomato, football, gelatin cups, Christmas lights, breath mints, crayons, gum, ketchup packets, and a pineapple. Mouse over those items for a a description. Beneath the view area there is a plate that is the timer, with a notation for where the meltdown happens. To start pick an object by clicking on it and then you'll watch as they load that object into the microwave and press the Express button, and then watch as the object melts down. Can you guess what will happen? Or how each item will react? This was a neat site to spend time at watching each experiment, go check it out for yourself! http://www.greensock.com/portfolio/MicroManiac/index.html ~Amanda Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?Send it to Amanda at amanda@worldstart.com Remember the old saying, "Too Much of a Good Thing "?
