WorldStart Tech Tips 2012-04-26 Having trouble viewing parts or all of the newsletter? View the entire newsletter here! Gmail – Delete 'Em All I work for Worldstart, and I get a LOT of e-mail. We're talking hundreds upon hundreds of messages – all of which Gmail keeps in one place or another for me to access at any time. So, when I finally go in to do a little spring cleaning, I'm met with a nightmare. I select all and delete… …100 messages at a time… But I've found a way to delete ALL my old, useless messages all at once, so I thought I'd share. In Gmail, make sure you're in the folder which you'd like to delete all your messages, (spam, trash, etc.) and click the box shown in the image below… …and click All – this will select all the messages on screen. Now, notice that at the top of your inbox there's a message that says "All 100 conversations on this page are selected." and next to it a link that says "Select all XXXX conversations in (insert folder name here)" Click it to select ALL messages in that folder. …and then click the trash can icon to delete. Voila! I dont want to protect the sheet or book, because I still need info from them that needs to be typed in – just some formulas. Once you have your excel worksheet created, select all the cells in the worksheet by left clicking the arrow next to Column A & on top of Row 1 and then right click and go to Format Cells. Go to the protection tab and left click the box next to "Locked" so there is no checkmark. Next, highlight the cells you wish to protect and right click on them and click on format cells. Click on protection tab again and then left click on the box next to Locked so that there is a checkmark in the box. Now, go to the Review Panel and click "protect sheet" and enter a password. Click OK and enter the password again. Click OK again. My recent excursion into the Android smartphone world has largely been an enjoyable experience, but that same problem continually flummoxed me. While there's very likely something native to Android that makes such file access possible, I decided to take the easy way–as I've always done with Windows–and search for freeware that would do the work, thus saving me the trouble of actually learning anything. The Astro File Manager, which provides file and folder access similar to that found in Windows Explorer, offers a solution to that problem. Note: Just as with Windows Explorer, mistakes can cause files to be deleted accidentally, or a careless blunder can create an even more serious problem. Since Android phones don't include a recycle bin from which files can be recovered, please be careful. Astro includes several other features, but this article only looks at file management, which allows you to find, copy, delete, move, and rename pictures, music, or any other files or folders on both the device and the SD card. File Renamer Basic Writing download tips provides numerous opportunities to test new software. However, for many of the tips, I just download, test, and uninstall. This might be because the product doesn't suit my needs, or it merely duplicates software I'm already using. Once in a while though, I run across something I'll keep. File Renamer Basic is one of those. It shares a feature with another product I recently reviewed, Faststone Photo Resizer. The similarity is that they both allow quick manipulation of multiple files. With File Renamer, I can easily rename a large group of files. Faststone Photo Resizer provided the tools to quickly resize large groups of images.
