To make the light softer and to create a wider 'flood' of light, turn it counter clockwise! This is an AMAZING feature if you going to be using this light outside. If you drop something in the dark, you can zoom out to create a wide flood, and if you're trying to concentrate on a specific object, zoom in for ultra illumination!
